Welcome to Belford a small fishing village in New Jersey , circa 1987, where the biggest event in the town is the home town football game. This book follows the lives of a few of the people to live in the small town. Some have dreams of leaving and others have dreams of winning the big game. Others trying to grow up too fast and some that just want to have fun and play music . Their stories all coincide with the playing of the big game . But there is more to the story then just these people . There are also the old crickers that have stayed and made their lives better or just stayed on the west side. Who will be your favorite?When I started this book I didn't know what to expect , and when I dived in I was hooked . The first chapter sucked me right in and kept me reading all night long . The stories are both funny and sad also. The characters are so diverse and remind me a bit of some of the people that I know. The kids that just are looking for trouble and the one that is trying to grow up too fast . These characters are so diverse and complex you will have your favourites and then you will have the ones you can't stand and really want to slap.
When you read Armand's work you are sucked into the pages . He paints a scene that will make you want more. His characters jump off the page at you and you start to care about them. This is a little bit of a more serious read then his Flagler Beach series . But it will be a great afternoon read at the beach or by the pool . You will enjoy the characters and love their stories . So why not take a trip down the road to Belford and have a cup of coffee and meet the regulars . I promise you will not be disappointed on bit .

There's a snowstorm coming to the small fishing village of Belford. Before the storm hits we get to meet some intriguing characters and hear their stories. I really enjoyed reading how the stories connect to each other in subtle ways and some not so subtle. Rosamilia's writing hooks you from the get go as his descriptive way with words puts you right in the thick of things. His compelling characters are everyday people trying to survive in what they feel is just a boring existence. I'm really looking forward to reading more about Willie, the Paul family, April, Billy, George, Jimmy, Garrett and others. I highly recommend this series and any other book by Armand Rosamilia as the man knows how to entertain you with his words.
This is a nice beach read, nothing too intense just a nice relaxing story about a small fishing town and the people who reside there. Some had dreams of leaving this town to find something better. This story is not about them, it is about the old "crickers", and the others that stayed. Some made a better life and some would always be part of the wet side of town, reminiscing of the glory days of being the Football star in high school.
That is not to say nothing ever happened in this town that was note worthy. There will always be those who thrive on finding trouble to get into and others that take pleasure into bullying others or taking advantage of the unsuspecting.
Take a trip down the dirt roads and see where it might lead you. There is an array of colorful characters in this story. Who will be your favorite? Maybe the Tank, who knew he had a drinking problem a diet problem and antisocial problem…but he was trying.
Or maybe you would identify better with Billy Hunter who was part of the Middletown police dept. Having to still deal with his high school bully and trying to do the right thing. Frakie was the golden football star back in his days at the High school. Most of his family was still here.
